Whispering Bird
Whispering Bird is one in a series of sculptures by Marion-Lea Jamieson that are rooted in myths about animals. These myths reconnect us with the age-old wisdom of our ancestors who understood our inter-relatedness and inter-dependence on all other forms of life. The sculpture was inspired by a small, four-thousand year-old terra cotta piece seen in the Paris Louvre. It made the artist wonder about the story behind it as she was not familiar with any fable having to do with a bird and a fox. Perhaps it was a fable that has been lost to us and did not survive to the present day. "Whispering Bird" is about stories lost and the creation of new stories through art. It was fabricated in collaboration with my partner Colin Race.
